The glider winch launch is one of the most dramatic and exciting ways of getting into the air, with fast acceleration and a steep angle of climb. The glider is launched into the air using a stationary ground-based machine that sits at the opposite end of the runway and pulls the glider powerfully along the ground with a metal cable. The effect of the launch is similar to when you pull a kite into the air – as you pull the string, the kite climbs skyward. The height gained from a winch launch is usually less than from an aerotow, so the flight will be normally be shorter, flight durations are between 6 to 15 minutes. It’s an amazing and exhilarating introduction to gliding.
More than just a gift!
Our gliding experiences include three months’ FREE membership of the club you fly at. That means that if you enjoy your flight so much that you can’t wait to get back in the air, you’ll be able to keep coming back for preferential members’ rates. It’s one of the cheapest ways to learn to fly, and the flying school will answer any questions you may have on what’s involved in learning to glide.
